A beautiful glimpse of the whales in La Paloma

If you have a spare three minutes, it will be worth it to watch this beautiful little video of the whales here in La Paloma. This is what we get to enjoy every year, just off the beaches in Uruguay. They are absolutely beautiful, and to watch them this close to the shore is a true delight.

Here at Zen, we are lucky enough to be situated right in front of one of their favourite spots along the coast of Rocha. We get to watch them from the hotel as they play in the waters of Anaconda Beach. The whales in this video are at Playas Serena and Anaconda. We saw them this day as they played close to the shore. There were quite a few groups of them, spread all along the coast, so there was plenty to see.

Zen Boutique Apart Hotel in La Paloma is getting close to completion. We thought we would share with you some recent photos, to give you a glimpse of the exceptional standard you will enjoy at Zen. Below there are some photos of the kitchenette, bathroom and parrillero (Uruguayan BBQ). The furniture hasn’t quite arrived, however once it does, we will be sure to share more photos here and on our website.

Kitchenettes

The kitchenettes are fully equipped and feature a black granite bench top. Cooking in the room will be easy with a range of appliances including fridge, microwave, hotplate, frying pan, saucepans and utensils.

The bathrooms are spacious and are stylishly designed with the clever use of stone and glass. Each of the different room types, Zen Relax, Zen Tranquility and Zen Spa have a different feature in the bathroom

International Day of Music

This weekend the 2nd of October, La Paloma celebrates the International Day of Music. There will be live performances on the main street, from a variety of bands including Rockandosis and local group Thompson. It will be a great night of entertainment, and there is sure to be a crowd enjoying the festivities on offer.

Dia del Patrimonio in La Paloma

The Dia del Patrimonio (Heritage Day) is celebrated throughout the whole of Uruguay at the end of every September. It is a day when they open up the doors to some special buildings and areas, and give tours, shows or exhibitions showcasing the heritage of Uruguay.

It really is a great opportunity to learn a bit about Uruguay, by taking advantage of the guided tours, expositions and shows. This is the only chance in the year that you get to visit a lot of these buildings, so throughout the weekend, you see a lot of people taking advantage of this once a year opportunity.

We will be in La Paloma throughout the weekend, and are sure to take advantage of a tour of the Lighthouse. The Lighthouse is an icon in La Paloma, and probably the most photographed landmark in the area. I am personally also very interested in what is happening with the Estacion de AFE, so I’ll also look forward to having a look through there.

Hydro Showers at Zen Hotel

We are down to the finer details of getting the Hotel finished and ready for Summer. We have just received delivery of the Hydro Massage Showers which is an exciting feature of the property. Seven of the hotel rooms are going to be fitted out with these shower cabins, which are sure to be popular amongst the guests.

This gives you the luxurious feeling of being massaged, and ensures ultimate relaxation while you are on holidays. Great Weather & Great Surf

We have had gorgeous weather here in La Paloma this week with warm sunshine and perfect beach conditions. The Brazilians are also taking advantage of this, and making the most of the great waves for surfing. On Monday we took some photos of the surfers at the beach – there would have been over 20 surfers out in the water catching some great waves.

Dolphins at Anaconda

Late this afternoon (Friday 27th August), there were dolphins playing around in the shores of Anaconda. They seemed to be having a great time playing in the water, and digging something up from the ocean floor. Of course this time of year is more known for seeing whales, but you never know what you might see around the beaches of La Paloma!

A Day for Whale Watching

Today has been the most perfect day for whale watching that we have had this season. There were quite a few whales frolicking close to the shores at Anaconda Beach & Playa de los Botes. It seems word spread quite quickly that the whales were around, and they showed off to a steady stream of visitors throughout the morning.

Zen Hotel will be open this November, making it the perfect place to watch the whales in Winter next year. The view is perfect from each room, and you have a great opportunity to see the whales at play in their favourite playground in La Paloma.

A Beautiful Winters Day in La Paloma

The weather here at the moment is absolutely perfect. According to Accuweather.com, the temperatures are sitting in the low 20′s (celcius), and it really couldn’t be nicer. The sky is a perfect blue, the water at the beaches is crystal clear. There are people out and about everywhere enjoying the gorgeous weather this weekend.

The beaches have been a popular spot to enjoy during the gorgeous weather. There have been quite a few surfers enjoying the clean waves and gorgeous weather, especially around Anaconda and Los Botes, plus there have been heaps of people fishing off different beaches including La Balconada, La Serena.

La Noche de la Nostalgia in La Paloma

The most anticipated night on the Uruguayan calendar is about to arrive. The Noche de la Nostalgia is a fun night with a fairly young tradition. Not that long ago, a DJ started the idea of having a night full of “old” music which coincides the night before the public holiday of the 25th of August. Now, by “old” music, I am referring to music from the 70′s, 80′s and 90′s.

It is celebrated all throughout Uruguay, and La Paloma is no exception. The following venues are offering a great night out, so if you are in La Paloma, be sure to check one of them out.

La Tuba – La Tuba is part of the Hotel & Casino Cabo Santa Maria. It is opened a couple of times throughout the year, and is a great venue for big functions. This year they are having a party for the Noche de la Nostalgia, and for $150 pesos you get entrance plus a drink. There is usually a big crowd, and this year shouldn’t be an exception.

Arrecife – Restaurant Arrecife is located along the main street of La Paloma. Throughout Summer it is one of the most popular restaurants in town, and throughout Winter, it is dedicated to being a function venue for private parties. This year they are also holding a party for the Noche de la Nostalgia.

These are just a coupleof the options for Noche de la Nostalgia in La Paloma. There are also restaurants like La Ballena and Hotel Viola that put on a special dinner. Also, try to fit in a Uruguayan siesta this afternoon, because nothing will start early here!
